Dear Grand Ridge families & staff:

I want to share my personal thanks to the Grand Ridge community for making the most of a challenging year! I’m thankful for the highlights we did have at school, like a fantastic Falloween, and students sharing their talents at Spelling Bee, Reflections and Talent Show. And it has been special to see this community come together and support one another outside of the school – with hopeful chalk art on the sidewalks to teddy bears & positive messages in windows, food and resources to families in need. #GrizzlyStrong!

Major kudos to the teachers and specialists who already do so much in a normal year and then ramped up a new way of teaching and connecting with our students from a distance (my kids are loving that Dance Video…and replay the Jokes video all the time).

At our last open meeting of the year on May 28, I shared slides on all that the PTSA impacted this year - it is amazing what this community can do in partnership with our school to support our students! Our motto is Many Hands & Many Hearts and I’m so appreciative of the many hands that came together to put on events, lead art lessons, run picture days and recess programs to name just a few. It wouldn’t have been possible without a great team on the PTSA board – thank you to each one of you for your many contributions this year.

I know this summer looks different than before, but I hope the rain will pause and everyone enjoys a safe and fun summer! We look forward to seeing all returning families in the fall and wish those moving on the best of luck!

Materials drop off and pick up (including Yearbooks) – June 16-18

This Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday, families will be able to drop off books and pick up personal belongings at school. Detailed schedule available here. This will be a socially distanced event so stay in your vehicle with your student(s) information in the window of the car. A staff member will bring belongings to you and collect any items you are returning. Remember to return your library books! Yearbooks will also be distributed to those who purchased them.

5th Grade Clap Out - June 19

Congratulations 5th Graders!  Please join your teachers and other Grand Ridge Staff for a Clap Out and Send Off to middle school!

Where:  Grand Ridge Drop-Off Loop (in the front of the school)

**Please note that this is a socially distance event.  All students and their families MUST stay in your vehicles and keep moving!  No parking or stopping.  Staff will be standing 6 feet apart all the way around the drop-off loop.

Student laptop and hotspot return – June 23-25

All ISD issued laptops and hotspots need to be returned to Grand Ridge between 9am and 3pm June 23-25 from 9am-3pm.  Drop off will be in the carpool lane in the school parking lot.

School Supplies

Get a head start on the fall and order your student’s school supplies.  This package will have everything they need for their school supply list.  It will be delivered to their desk in the fall if we are able to have in person learning.  If there is distance learning, we will have a way to allow you to pick them up right before school starts.  Place your order by July 7.  Click here and enter the code GRA048 if asked.

May 28 General Meeting

At the last PTSA meeting of the school year on May 28, we reviewed all the PTSA did during the school year, approved a budget for next school year (noting that we will likely amend at the start of the year as we know more about how it will work), re-elected Laura Gaffney as President, Kim de Booij-Moors as Vice-President and Erin Michael as Secretary for 2020-21.

Then Principal Ravenscraft was available for a Q&A session.  The recording is split into two parts.  Click on the links for Part 1 and Part 2.  You can also find agenda and meeting materials for this and prior meetings here.

Open Board and Chair positions

The 2020-21 school year is likely to be different than previous years as we continue to deal with the impact of COVID-19. While some events and programs may not happen in the same way, we will still need creative and passionate volunteers to help support our students and school community. We have a variety of open positions.  Our most critical needs include Treasurer, Membership Director, Yearbook Chair(s), Fundraising Director, and Programs Director.  If you are interested or have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Laura Gaffney or any board member to talk further about joining the Board or a Committee

Reflections 2020-21 program

The summer break is a great time to get started on Reflections projects for those who are wanting to enter.  The theme for next year is “I Matter Because…”  Entry packets will be available in August.  You can learn more on the WA State PTA website.
